Ingredients

  • 4 tsp Jasmine TeaAdagio Jasmine Tea
  • 1tsp Butter
  • 1/2 cup of Rice
  • 1 1/3 cups Water

Prep Time: 3 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes

This is short and sweet. Simply substitute the water used in making rice, with a nice tea. JasmineAdagio Jasmine Tea is an ideal candidate for this. It adds a pleasant smell to your rice, and the taste is subtle. Your guest will know that there is something different yet familiar about it. It’s great touch without much effort.

So here is how you do it. First, make some strong Jasmine TeaAdagio Jasmine Tea. I used 4tsp in 1 1/3 cups of water. Let the tea cool. Then mix the rice, butter and jasmine tea in a sauce pan. Stir and heat until the water boils. Then lower the heat and simmer the rice until all the tea is absorbed. Fluff with a fork.

Strong Jasmine Tea.

For the strong tea. Bring water to 180°, then steep tea for 5 minutes. Divide tea into 2 servings of 1/2 cup each. These will be used for the cake and glaze.

Jasmine Spice Cake

Preheat Oven to 325°. Melt butter and use to glaze the inside of an 8 inch cake pan.

Mix together to baking soda, baking powder, salt flour, Chinese 5 spice, cinnamon, mace & ginger.

In a separate bowl, mix applesauce and 1/2 cup of jasmine tea.

In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs, white sugar and brown sugar until fluffy and well mixed. Add vegetable oil and mix again. Add 1/4 of the applesauce mix and 1/4 of the dry mix and beat again. Repeat until all the applesauce and dry mix are used. Pour mixture into the prepared baking pan and place in oven. Bake for 90 - 120 minutes; until a toothpick can be placed in and come out clean. Cover with a thin coat of the jasmine glaze (recipe below) and let cool for at least 30 minutes. Use glaze to taste, no need to use it all.

Jasmine Glaze

Start the Jasmine Glaze when your cake has about 20 minutes to until it is finished baking. In a sauce pan, mix powdered sugar, flour, and remaining jasmine tea. Over a low flame, or low heat, constantly stir this mix for about 15 minutes. You want the mixture to reduce and thicken slightly. Let sit for 5 minutes.

Bonus: Jasmine Apple Sauce

If you have any of the jasmine glaze left over, mix it with some applesauce. It is a great alternative to your typical applesauce, especially for kids.

Enjoy your jasmine deserts!
